    progress2work/linkup Berkshire is a Jobcentre Plus initiative aiming to help disadvantaged groups to return to employment as part of wider government welfare to work initiatives. Progress2Work works with individuals who have experienced past problematic drug use whilst linkUP extends provision to those disadvantaged by homelessness, alcohol problems or a history of offending. This new countywide service with bases in Reading and Maidenhead, works closely with Jobcentre Plus and other key stakeholders to facilitate access for clients to vocational training and employment.

    Berkshire Women's Aid Each year we are contacted by over seven thousand women fearing or experiencing abuse at home or in a relationship.

    We work throughout Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire and South Oxfordshire, and are affiliated to WAFE  (Women's Aid Federation of England - national helpline no. 0808 2000 247).

    Children’s Information Centre (CIC)  is an award winning, independent, registered charity providing free, impartial information, advice and assistance for families and professionals. The organisation has been working in Berkshire for over 19 years. 

    Christian Community Action The work of Christian Community Action started in the Reading area in 1992 with a desire to reach out to those on the margins of society, whether through poverty, homelessness or long term unemployment. The work was the vision of one man with a van who single handed collected items of clothing and surplus furniture from donors and supplied these to individuals and families who were desperate for support. At this time a 200 sq.ft. derelict barn was used for temporary storage

    Crossing Bridges  (Domestic Abuse) is here to help you be safe and to find the information you need.  We can help you whether this is all new to you, or whether it has been happening to you for years, regardless of gender, age, sexuality, race, culture or religious beliefs.

    Crossroads A Crossroads service is about giving time - improving the lives of carers by giving them a break from their caring responsibilities. Our aim is to provide a reliable, tailored service, for each carer and the person they care for. We have schemes in most parts of England and Wales, which provide a range of services.

    • Reading Crossroads is committed to providing practical support in the home in order to enable carers to have a break from their caring responsibilities. In providing this service to carers, Reading Crossroads may provide a personal care service to people with care needs (service user) and will ensure that the provision of such personal care is user lead.

      Dyslexia Research Trust  was set up by Professor John Stein and Dr Sue Fowler at Oxford University to fund cutting edge interdisciplinary research into dyslexia and other related conditions and to support free clinics to assess and assist people with these conditions

    - A group for those suffering from eating disorders.
    - A group for those caring for an individual with an eating disorder.
    - Emotional and practical support.
    - Opportunity to meet others facing similar everyday challenges.
    - Information about eating disorders.
    - Discussions of topics agreed by the group.
    We run both a Recovery Group and a Carers Group. The Recovery Group meets on the first Monday of each month and the Carers Group meets on the third Monday of each month 7.30pm – 8.45pm.
    We discuss selected topics and have guest speakers for the Carers’ Group, while the Recovery Group tends to have a less structured approach. The groups offer a place to gather, share experiences, support each other and work together to explore new ways of coping. Recoverers’ can attend both groups (many do) but the carers’ group is focused on the needs of carers.
    The group is open to all, free of charge and always welcomes new members.
    (Due to restrictions imposed by Beat, all attendees must be 18 or over or 16 or over and attend with a guardian.)

    Gingerbread Information and support for lone parents

    We provide supported housing to single people who have a history of homelessness. And, as homelessness rarely comes alone, many are struggling with substance or alcohol misuse, have a history of offending or mental health issues, had a poor start in life or have been affected by a relationship breakdown.

    Life Story Therapeutic Centre The aims of Life Story Charitable Trust is to provide counsel ling, psychotherapy and complementary therapies available to the widest possible number of people within the community, and to provide a range of training to professionals working in these fields. The purpose of the charity is to provide a quality counsel ling service for the community; " with an all inclusive environment we promote and support personal and social growth"

    Phab is a charity dedicated to promoting the integration of people with and without disabilities.  Lord Snowdon is our Patron - Rolf Harris and Sir Cliff Richard are two Vice Presidents.  Phab has provided support and services for our club members since 1957.

    Phab believes that we need to challenge negative attitudes towards disability and our Disability Awareness Training pro gramme is part of this strategy.

    Phab works to give disabled people greater independence and freedom, believing this is vital to the creation of a fully inclusive society, in which every one sees themselves valued for the contribution they make.

    Prospects  is a Christian voluntary organisation which values and supports people with learning disabilities so that they live their lives to the full.

    Prospects supports people to live as independently as possible and develop a wide range of skills.  

    Reading Association for the Blind The association began as Reading Blind Aid Society in 1883 but underwent a fundamental change in 1926 when the Borough of Reading became involved owing to new legislation. The Mayor of Reading was appointed as President, a practice that continues today, and a committee of Trustees was established. The name was changed to Reading Association for the Welfare of the Blind.

    ReadiBus  aims to provide mobility and independence to people who would otherwise have great difficulty in getting out and about.

    ReadiBus' principal service is a telephone-booked accessible bus service, Dial-a-Ride. It is available door-to-door across a large part of Central and West Berkshire and South Oxfordshire. Some services are timetabled and run at the same time each week.

    Reading Mencap is a local charity, which aims to provide help and support for people with a learning disability, and their families, in the Reading area. Although we are affiliated to the Royal Society, we are independently funded. The original group was called The Reading Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults but we changed our name in 2002 to the more easily used title we now have. 

    Reading Refugee Support Group  The Group was setup in 1994 . Its aims to assist refugees and asylum seekers who are resident in the Reading area, and in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
    The Group will help them to access services and assist them to maintain their dignity and provide them with practical support to rebuild their lives.

    Our objectives are

    To offer information, advice and support on a wide range of issues, including asylum matters, housing, health, education, training, employment, accessing benefits, securing household items etc.

    Promote the integration of our clients and their dependents into mainstream society and help build their self-esteem individually and collectively.

    To lobby on behalf of our clients, advocating for their needs with the local authorities and Educate the general public about issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers.

    Reading Resource Resource is an innovative non-medical service, which is one of the many projects run by Together. It offers people who are experiencing mental health difficulties or emotional distress the chance to make positive changes in their social and working lives.

    The Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust was set up in 1998 with the aim of reducing the number of children who are killed and injured every year in the UK as a result of head injuries sustained in cycling accidents.
    The YMCA is a leading Christian charity committed to supporting all young people, particularly in times of need.

    The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest general hospital trusts in the country

    We provide acute medical and surgical services to Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire and specialist services to a wider population across Berkshire and its borders.

    Please contact Jane if you have any concerns about your clients or family members using the in-patient or out-patient services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust or the out-patient services at West Berks Community Hospital or Prince Charles Eye Unit.
    Her role is to ensure that all our patients with a learning disability have the most effective care and treatment and that their special needs are addressed, whether they are staying on a ward or visiting an out-patient clinic.
    She can supply you with an ‘Information about me’ folder prior to planned admissions and she ensures that these folders are given to carers when someone with a learning disability is admitted as an emergency.
    The Trust has a bleep system for patients and carers attending out-patient clinics at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Clinic staff will try to fast track learning disability patients through but this isn’t always possible. General out- patients and Trauma and Orthopaedic clinics have their own bleeps – ask at reception in those clinics. If you are visiting any of the other clinics, collect a bleep from the PALS office on level 2, behind Main Reception.
    We have a series of easy read leaflets available explaining some of the more common investigations that we do here and information about visiting A & E, CDU and the pre – op assessment clinic.

    progress2work/linkup Berkshire is a Jobcentre Plus initiative aiming to help disadvantaged groups to return to employment as part of wider government welfare to work initiatives. Progress2Work works with individuals who have experienced past problematic drug use whilst linkUP extends provision to those disadvantaged by homelessness, alcohol problems or a history of offending. This new countywide service with bases in Reading and Maidenhead, works closely with Jobcentre Plus and other key stakeholders to facilitate access for clients to vocational training and employment.

    Berkshire Women's Aid Each year we are contacted by over seven thousand women fearing or experiencing abuse at home or in a relationship.

    We work throughout Reading, Bracknell, Wokingham, West Berkshire and South Oxfordshire, and are affiliated to WAFE  (Women's Aid Federation of England - national helpline no. 0808 2000 247).

    Children’s Information Centre (CIC)  is an award winning, independent, registered charity providing free, impartial information, advice and assistance for families and professionals. The organisation has been working in Berkshire for over 19 years. 

    Christian Community Action The work of Christian Community Action started in the Reading area in 1992 with a desire to reach out to those on the margins of society, whether through poverty, homelessness or long term unemployment. The work was the vision of one man with a van who single handed collected items of clothing and surplus furniture from donors and supplied these to individuals and families who were desperate for support. At this time a 200 sq.ft. derelict barn was used for temporary storage

    Crossroads A Crossroads service is about giving time - improving the lives of carers by giving them a break from their caring responsibilities. Our aim is to provide a reliable, tailored service, for each carer and the person they care for. We have schemes in most parts of England and Wales, which provide a range of services.

    • Reading Crossroads is committed to providing practical support in the home in order to enable carers to have a break from their caring responsibilities. In providing this service to carers, Reading Crossroads may provide a personal care service to people with care needs (service user) and will ensure that the provision of such personal care is user lead.

      Dyslexia Research Trust  was set up by Professor John Stein and Dr Sue Fowler at Oxford University to fund cutting edge interdisciplinary research into dyslexia and other related conditions and to support free clinics to assess and assist people with these conditions

    - A group for those suffering from eating disorders.
    - A group for those caring for an individual with an eating disorder.
    - Emotional and practical support.
    - Opportunity to meet others facing similar everyday challenges.
    - Information about eating disorders.
    - Discussions of topics agreed by the group.
    We run both a Recovery Group and a Carers Group. The Recovery Group meets on the first Monday of each month and the Carers Group meets on the third Monday of each month 7.30pm – 8.45pm.
    We discuss selected topics and have guest speakers for the Carers’ Group, while the Recovery Group tends to have a less structured approach. The groups offer a place to gather, share experiences, support each other and work together to explore new ways of coping. Recoverers’ can attend both groups (many do) but the carers’ group is focused on the needs of carers.
    The group is open to all, free of charge and always welcomes new members.
    (Due to restrictions imposed by Beat, all attendees must be 18 or over or 16 or over and attend with a guardian.)

    Gingerbread Information and support for lone parents

    We provide supported housing to single people who have a history of homelessness. And, as homelessness rarely comes alone, many are struggling with substance or alcohol misuse, have a history of offending or mental health issues, had a poor start in life or have been affected by a relationship breakdown.

    Life Story Therapeutic Centre The aims of Life Story Charitable Trust is to provide counsel ling, psychotherapy and complementary therapies available to the widest possible number of people within the community, and to provide a range of training to professionals working in these fields.     Phab is a charity dedicated to promoting the integration of people with and without disabilities.  Lord Snowdon is our Patron - Rolf Harris and Sir Cliff Richard are two Vice Presidents.  Phab has provided support and services for our club members since 1957.

    Phab believes that we need to challenge negative attitudes towards disability and our Disability Awareness Training pro gramme is part of this strategy.

    Phab works to give disabled people greater independence and freedom, believing this is vital to the creation of a fully inclusive society, in which every one sees themselves valued for the contribution they make.

    Prospects  is a Christian voluntary organisation which values and supports people with learning disabilities so that they live their lives to the full.

    Reading Association for the Blind The association began as Reading Blind Aid Society in 1883 but underwent a fundamental change in 1926 when the Borough of Reading became involved owing to new legislation. The Mayor of Reading was appointed as President, a practice that continues today, and a committee of Trustees was established. The name was changed to Reading Association for the Welfare of the Blind.

    ReadiBus  aims to provide mobility and independence to people who would otherwise have great difficulty in getting out and about.

    ReadiBus' principal service is a telephone-booked accessible bus service, Dial-a-Ride. It is available door-to-door across a large part of Central and West Berkshire and South Oxfordshire. Some services are timetabled and run at the same time each week.

    Reading Mencap is a local charity, which aims to provide help and support for people with a learning disability, and their families, in the Reading area. Although we are affiliated to the Royal Society, we are independently funded. The original group was called The Reading Society for Mentally Handicapped Children and Adults but we changed our name in 2002 to the more easily used title we now have. 

    Reading Refugee Support Group  The Group was setup in 1994 . Its aims to assist refugees and asylum seekers who are resident in the Reading area, and in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
    The Group will help them to access services and assist them to maintain their dignity and provide them with practical support to rebuild their lives.

    Our objectives are

    To offer information, advice and support on a wide range of issues, including asylum matters, housing, health, education, training, employment, accessing benefits, securing household items etc.

    Promote the integration of our clients and their dependents into mainstream society and help build their self-esteem individually and collectively.

    To lobby on behalf of our clients, advocating for their needs with the local authorities and Educate the general public about issues affecting refugees and asylum seekers.

    Reading Resource Resource is an innovative non-medical service, which is one of the many projects run by Together. It offers people who are experiencing mental health difficulties or emotional distress the chance to make positive changes in their social and working lives.

    We provide acute medical and surgical services to Reading, Wokingham and West Berkshire and specialist services to a wider population across Berkshire and its borders.

    Please contact Jane if you have any concerns about your clients or family members using the in-patient or out-patient services at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust or the out-patient services at West Berks Community Hospital or Prince Charles Eye Unit.
    Her role is to ensure that all our patients with a learning disability have the most effective care and treatment and that their special needs are addressed, whether they are staying on a ward or visiting an out-patient clinic.
    She can supply you with an ‘Information about me’ folder prior to planned admissions and she ensures that these folders are given to carers when someone with a learning disability is admitted as an emergency.
    The Trust has a bleep system for patients and carers attending out-patient clinics at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Clinic staff will try to fast track learning disability patients through but this isn’t always possible. General out- patients and Trauma and Orthopaedic clinics have their own bleeps – ask at reception in those clinics. If you are visiting any of the other clinics, collect a bleep from the PALS office on level 2, behind Main Reception.
    We have a series of easy read leaflets available explaining some of the more common investigations that we do here and information about visiting A & E, CDU and the pre – op assessment clinic.
